AFKCON 2016: Thank You! and Looking to the Future!

posted on Mon, 07 Mar 2016 at 10:38
It's been two weeks since AFKCON 2016 and we are in a good spot to give the recap. Our sincerest thanks to all the amazing people who came out and participated. If AFKCON is about anything, it is about people coming together and sharing the things that they think are amazing and that is what we got for a second year. AFKCON is certainly not an event meant for everyone, but those who 'get it' have told us they love what we are doing and want to help us continue to build. So, thank you for that feedback and positive energy; we are taking that forward with us into planning for 2017.

Team AFK will be getting out into the different communities that our participants associate with to help them create awareness and desire to join us all at AFKCON 2017. To that end, if you have an event from now until AFKCON 2017 that we should know about, please let us know! We will be changing the AFKCON Community Page on Facebook to be called "AFK365" in order to share awareness among the different groups and facilitating coming together afk throughout the year.

AFKers are an exotic bunch. So are snakes, lizards and spiders. So we give them some love.

While these critters are on many people's 'ick' list, not everyone chooses to avoid them. If you're one of those, come see one of AFK's most popular attractions of last year and meet the folks who care for and re-home abandoned cold-blooded friends. And if you're at all like us, maybe you'll adopt one!

See more on the Hamilton Ball Python Facebook page.

Why does AFKCON matter?

posted on Thu, 11 Feb 2016 at 23:48

Everyone has good ideas -  things that they want to try, want to do, what to start or finish or learn.

And while all of these things can happen in the comfort of your own home, it can also be really exciting to go and hangout with people who have similar ideas.

As Captain Hammer said in Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog

"It's not enough to bash in heads, you've got to bash in minds" and while I am fairly certain he was referring to a very basic civic awareness, you can also take it to mean -  bashing ideas - literally giving people a chance to talk to each other with a little direction and let the ideas fly like fur in a cat fight.  Or like trash in a storm.

Point of interest, I suck at analogies.

Our entire purpose with AFK is to give anyone interested in Indie-Professional ANYTHING a chance to come and hang out, listen to some panels, meet new people, learn new things, make new connections and reinvest in the Indie community.

And that is AFK.

Yes we're open for anything Indie! Yes we would love to see you there! No you don't need to come for the whole weekend -  drop in, say hi - take a look around and if you like what you see - come back and talk to us at the reg desk.

We're always open for new ideas. New People and New Things. Especially Godzilla. We always have time for Godzilla.
